DAWN™ study during pregnancy in Italy
Recently a study about women with gestational Diabetes has been finalized in Italy and the report is now available. The project on women with gestational diabetes is part of the DAWN Study in Italy. Conducted in 12 Italian centres, the study focused on the care and aid of women with gestational Diabetes. The aim of the study was to evaluate the psychosocial problems related to gestational diabetes.
The study involved both Italian and immigrant women. The immigrant women came from 27 different countries, with the majority of them coming from Romania, Morocco, Bangladesh, Albania and Nigeria. Nurses managed the distribution of questionnaires and assisted immigrant women during the compilation. Based on the study the Italian DAWN advisory board has developed a call to action in partnerships with the Scientific Italian diabetes Community.
The DAWN call to action in Italy:
- To train the health professionals
- To carry out campaigns of information, also through mass media, in order to promote screening, diagnosis and post partum follow up
- To create a network for diabetes assistance in pregnancy in every region
- To produce and share protocols useful to reduce arise of Type 2 diabetes after birth
- To put the topic “pregnancy” into the educational plans for women with diabetes in the fertile age
- To improve communication between people with diabetes, cultural intermediaries and healthcare givers for better care of migrant women
