About DAWN Youth
The beginnings of DAWN
In 2001, Novo Nordisk initiated the DAWN programme, in cooperation with the IDF. DAWN was founded to improve the health and quality of life of people with diabetes by identifying and overcoming the psychosocial barriers that can prevent people with diabetes from effectively managing their condition. DAWN began with a study involving 13 countries, 3,800 healthcare professionals and over 5,400 people with diabetes. It was the first and largest study of its kind. What is DAWN Youth?
DAWN Youth is a new global programme that has been created to explore the attitudes, wishes and needs of young people affected by diabetes and their families. It is our hope that the findings and activities of this programme will guide the wider diabetes community to address the unmet needs of young people with diabetes, their families, peers and healthcare professionals and will also uncover viable solutions to ensure all children and youth with this disease receive the best care and support.
Working in partnership
DAWN Youth is a global Novo Nordisk initiative in partnership with IDF, ISPAD, world leading organizations and experts in childhood diabetes. DAWN Youth will build upon the global IDF Youth Charter being finalised as part of the IDF-led Unite for Diabetes campaign. It is the hope that DAWN Youth should be a catalyst to move from charter to change. For information about the UN Resolution access website here.
"IDF wholeheartedly supports the international DAWN Youth effort to increase knowledge and awareness about the unique attitudes, wishes and needs of youth with diabetes and those who care for them.”
Martin Silink, President of IDF
We look forward to changing the future of diabetes with you!
