The DAWN Youth survey

From 2007-2009, the aim of the DAWN Youth initiative is to establish a new unique knowledge base around young people with diabetes; this knowledge should be drawn upon to guide actions on a national and global level and improve awareness of the particular needs for young people with diabetes.

The first step is engaging key stakeholders to shape the required initiatives. Survey tools and action strategies are being developed to evaluate the needs of young people with diabetes, their families, and healthcare professionals and help clinics, regions, or countries find ways to improve psychosocial support. To kick-start the process, thought leaders and national associations have convened in Japan, Brazil, South Africa, United States, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands and Germany to guide the DAWN Youth initiative and define national priority issues and action strategies.

The dialogues and surveys will be conducted over 2007 and 2008, with an international expert advisory board that will ensure the insights derived from the survey are deployed to the full benefit of young people with diabetes throughout the world, and their families.
